WHAT IS VIETNAM TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD FOR FOREIGNERS?

TYPES OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD AND DURATION

The duration of the Temporary Residence Card depends on the foreigner’s entry purpose, the visa type and qualifications. The validity of a Temporary Residence Card is shorter at least 30 days than the duration of the passport. The TRC is not issued to the foreign labors; investments that are having the passport validity less than one year, the TRC may be extended or renewed if the supporting documents are sufficient

DETAILED PROCEDURE TO GET TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD IN VIETNAM

For foreigners who want to come to Vietnam to work or invest in Vietnam and want to apply for a temporary residence permit in Vietnam, they must go through 3 basic application steps. They can adjust the order in steps 1 and 2 depending on the conditions, ability to prepare documents and entry plans. However, they are all complicated and need to prepare documents carefully. Depending on each type of TRC, the processing time for the steps and application components will be different. Once completed, foreigners will receive temporary residence cards valid from 2 to 10 years.

Determine the entry purpose and type of TRC you want to apply for

  • Apply for Business Visa (DN1/DN2)
  • Processing time: 5-7 working days
  • Apply for an Investment Registration Certificate (IRC) and Business Registration Certificate (BRC)
  • Processing time: 2-3 months

Step 2 
Apply for a license that matches the documents you have

  • Apply for Vietnam Work Permit/ Work Permit Exemption Certificate
  • Processing time: 5-10 weeks
  • Apply for a short term Investment Visa (DT)
  • Processing time: 7-10 working days

Step 3 
Apply for TRC and get the result

  • Apply for TRC – (LĐ Visa)
  • Processing time: 7-10 working days
  • Obtaining the TRC (DT Visa) for foreign investor

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR TEMPORARY RESIDENCE CARD (TRC) IN VIETNAM

Vietnam Temporary Residence Card will not be issued if the applicant’s passport is valid for less than one year. In addition, the duration of the Temporary Residence Card will always be at least one month shorter than the duration of the holder’s passport.

The most common types of TRC today that foreigners often apply for when coming to Vietnam are investment TRC, working TRC and relatives visiting TRC. Requirements For Foreign Workers & Investors

  • Written request from the agency, organization or individual to carry out invitation and sponsor procedures;
  • A written request for Vietnam temporary residence card (NA6 form);
  • Declaration of foreign applicant’s information (NA8 form);
  • Register seal and signature sample for the first time at the Immigration Office (Form NA16);
  • Introduction letter;
  • The applicant’s original passport (passport valid for at least 13 months and visa to enter Vietnam for the same purpose);
  • Two (2) passport-sized photographs (2cm x3cm);
  • A valid and suitable Vietnam’s visa (LĐ/DN/TT);
  • Proof of residence registration certified by the local police department 
  • Business registration license, Investment license; Operation license of Representative Office or branch registration certificate.
  • Notarized true copy of the foreign worker's work permit.


Requirements For Foreign Investors

  • Written request from the agency, organization or individual to carry out invitation and sponsor procedures;
  • A written request for Vietnam temporary residence card (NA6 form);
  • Declaration of foreign applicant’s information (NA8 form);
  • Register seal sample and signature for the first time at the Immigration Office (Form NA16);
  • Introduction letter;
  • The applicant’s original passport (passport valid for at least 13 months and visa to enter Vietnam for the same purpose);
  • Two (2) passport-sized photographs (2cm x3cm);
  • A valid and suitable Vietnam’s visa (DT);
  • Proof of residence registration confirmed by the local police department 
  • Notarized copy of Business Registration Certificate and Investment License which clearly and detailed shows the capital contribution of the foreign investor;
  • Certificate of seal sample registration or Written notice of posting information about the enterprise's seal sample on the national business registration information portal.

APPLICATION PROCESS AND WHERE CAN YOU SUBMIT THE RESIDENCE PERMIT?

Step 1: Prepare documents

Step 2: Submit your application directly at one of the three offices of the Immigration Department - Ministry of Public Security:

  • Immigration Department in Hanoi: 44 Tran Phu, Ba Dinh, Hanoi.
  • Immigration Department in Ho Chi Minh City: 333-335-337 Nguyen Trai, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Immigration Department in Da Nang: 78 Le Loi Str, Da Nang City
  • Any the Immigration Department of the province/city police where the foreigner is registered for temporary residence

If your dossier is complete and valid, the Immigration Department will receive the dossier, give a receipt, and set a date to return the results.


Step 3: Get results - within from 5 to 7 working days, you can come to the Immigration Department and receive the results.
